Coupé International Vol. 1
Anneliese Schrenk, Maria Walker
Curated by Michael Strasser
November 13th – December 13th, 2013
With Maria Walker and Anneliese Schrenk, the project Coupé International kicks off a series of exhibitions, each of which will feature the works of two artists: One based in New York and the other in Vienna.
Coupé International’s goal is to establish an ongoing exchange between the two respective cities. While the first events will take place in New York, future programing will extend to Vienna.
The title of the series references a small car for two: Space and possibilities are limited but it also embodies a basic concept of motion with a flexible and playful spirit.
The accompanying magazine, complementary to each exhibition, will investigate the distinct work and practices of the invited artists. Over time it will serve as an archive to support the mission of the project, further establishing a dialog between the artists from both cities and serve as a guide for future programing.
Coupé International is made possible by our generous donors and supporters and public funding. I would like to thank 308at156 Project Artspace, located in New York’s Flatiron District, for hosting our opening exhibition, and The Austrian Ministry for Arts and Culture and The Austrian Cultural Forum New York for its continued support and guidance.
