Project: ArtSpace is excited to announce the upcoming two-person exhibition of paintings by Caetlynn Booth and Amy Lincoln. The show opens Tuesday, May 7th 7-9 PM, and runs May 7th to June 15th, 2019.

Amy Lincoln’s paintings depict plants and the natural world, with a bent towards symbolism and the surreal. Much of the imagery reflects her home in Queens. Daffodils, maple trees, and tomato plants are juxtaposed against human-made elements such as chain link fences, streetlights, or a kiddie pool. Celestial bodies such as the sun, stars, and the moon hang over these scenes, and are painted almost as symbols, but nevertheless emit a carefully rendered glow. Elements of the paintings sensitively observed, such the veins and saw-tooth edge of a leaf, while other elements play with flatness or cartoonish depiction, such as a flower-topped hill jutting improbably toward the sky.

Caetlynn Booth’s paintings depict in-between domains, whether populated or vacant, that explore both internal and external spaces. She alternates between bodies of work, with cross-pollination leading to unexpected relationships and associations. Each body of work takes as its starting point an element of figurative imagery, such as grasses reflected in a swamp, or the silhouette of a swimmer. Booth creates a symbolic language to explore abstraction and metamorphosis, and sometimes the grasses protruding from the water mimic and repeat the approximate positions of the different sets of synchronized swimmers’ legs. In another body of work, “Sunrise Studies,” Booth explores the abstraction of daybreak. Sunrise suggests a thrilling promise, and the palette speaks to this quality with undulating lines of color. In this work, the shapes are made from the mask cut-outs for other paintings, as well as recycled mixed paint.

Caetlynn Booth is an artist based in Queens, NY. Over the past few years, her work has been featured at Pulse Art Fair in Miami Beach with Project: ArtSpace (New York); and in shows at Tiger Strikes Asteroid (Brooklyn); Reservoir Art Space (Queens); The American Academy of Arts & Letters Gallery (New York); and ODETTA (Brooklyn). Booth has received a Purchase Award from the American Academy of Arts & Letters, and her work is in the collections of the Mississippi Museum of Art and the di Rosa Contemporary Art Center, among others. Booth was the recipient of a Fulbright Fellowship and a D.A.A.D. grant for a painting and research project in Berlin, Germany, and she has completed residencies at I-A-M Institut and GlogauAIR in Berlin, at the Vermont Studio Center, and at the Noxubee Wildlife Refuge in Mississippi. She received her MFA from Mason Gross School of the Arts at Rutgers University and BA from the University of California at Davis

Amy Lincoln is based in Queens, New York. She has had solo shows at Morgan Lehman Gallery in New York and Monya Rowe Gallery in Saint Augustine, FL. She has participated in group shows at New York galleries including Sargent’s Daughters, Regina Rex, Norte Maar, and Thierry Goldberg as well as Geoffrey Young Gallery in Great Barrington, MA, among many others. She has been awarded residencies such as the Wave Hill Winter Workspace program, the Inside Out Art Museum Residency in Beijing, and a Swing Space residency from the Lower Manhattan Cultural Council. She received an MFA in Painting from Tyler School of Art in Philadelphia, and a BA in Studio Art from the University of California, Davis. She lives and works in Glendale, Queens.
