Sanctuary
Erin Latham, Amy Lincoln, Jae Song
Curated by Leslie Kerby
March 19th – April 25th, 2014

308@156 Project Artspace is pleased to present Sanctuary curated by Leslie Kerby and featuring work by Erin Latham, Amy Lincoln, and Jae Song. Working in a variety of media, including recycled paper, acrylic painting, and film, these three artists exhibit a confidence in life as citizens of an ever changing world, creating individual sanctuaries for their ideas through their art. Lincoln and Song create portraits that combine sign and symbols—familiar elements and patterns—that are ever present in the sanctuary of everyday life. Latham and Lincoln interpret the landscape, conscious both of the vibrancy and fragility of the environment that is the sanctuary in which we live. The gallery installation is its own sanctuary, a living environment with sound and movement, within which to contemplate.

Erin Latham is a printmaker and installation artist from Norman, Oklahoma. Latham received her Bachelors of Fine Art from the University of Oklahoma in 2008, and her Masters of Fine Art from the Pratt Institute in 2012. Latham is interested in understanding the impact her work has on the environment, as well as using traditional media in sustainable ways. By using recycled, non-toxic materials, and found objects, as well as repurposing the multiples of past prints, she creates installations that immerse the viewer in a specific environment. Latham relocated back to Oklahoma in the summer of 2012, and has since been actively pursuing her career as a professional artist and teacher.

Amy Lincoln is a New York-based artist who makes paintings, drawings, and collage. Her work often depicts plants, indoor and outdoor spaces, and people. Lincoln moved to New York in 2006 upon receiving a Swing space residency from the Lower Manhattan Cultural Council. In 2012 she was awarded a residency at the Inside Out Art Museum in Beijing, China. She lives in Brooklyn, New York.
