The Laying On of Hands
Leslie Kerby
May 15th – June 15th, 2018
Artist Talk: June 9th at 3pm

Project ARTspace is pleased to present The Laying On of Hands, Leslie Kerby’s solo exhibition of mixed media works on paper and video animation. Kerby has curated a number of shows at the gallery over the past six years, and we are happy to have this opportunity to showcase her work as an artist as well.

“In The Laying On of Hands, one of Leslie Kerby’s most polyphonic bodies of work to date, the artist turns her critical eye towards one of the most politically charged, ideologically divisive, societally expansive and, at the very same time, most deeply intimate issues of our time in the United States: our healthcare system. By tapping into a broad range of her artistic skills and techniques — drawing, painting, printmaking and mixed media collage, among others Kerby has crafted one of her most fully realized, conceptually seamless bodies of work to date.”

— Modified excerpt from “Manual Realizations,” Paul D’Agostino’s essay for the exhibition catalogue

Leslie Kerby is an artist and curator based in New York City. She works primarily in drawing, painting, printmaking and collage to create thematically interlinked bodies of work focusing on issues related to how we lead our lives personally, as individuals, and to how our personal lives are variably connected to, and communities within which we live and interact. In addition to making and exhibiting her artwork, Kerby also acts as a guest curator with a number of New York art venues and institutions, such as Project ARTspace, and is a member of the Contemporary Art Advisory Council at BRIC Arts | Media, and a member of the Executive Board at Norte Maar for Collaborative Projects in the Arts.
